The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of George Konopik can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Fond Memories

I just learned about the passing Mr. Konopik and am sorry for your loss.  He loved to explore music with his students at Oak Harbor Junior High School and worked to improve all of us, during adolescents, with the discipline of music. The abilities that I have are first a gift from God, but refined by Mr. Konopik by his love for marching, (1812 Overture), and “Rat Pack” jazz music; both were formidable to me as I grew into adulthood.  In my lifetime, so far, to enjoy each as a first choice, is because of him.   Mr. Konopik was also my History teacher and although I did not enjoy the subject, I was lucky to have him as my band instructor.  He was a mentor to all of us attending class with him during my seventh and eighth grade year. Ramona  Looper class of 1976-1977 at Oak Harbor Junior High School.
