My Adopted Grandma

I grew up in Oak Harbor Lutheran Church and very early on met Evelyn. When I was a young girl my mom would routinely drop me off at Evelyns house. Each morning we would begin our mornings walking the loop of Pioneer way. Evelyn had quite the group some times it would be just she, Polly and I. Other times there would be 4 or 5 women walking with us. When we returned she would always make her toast and we would sit in her kitchen discussing what part of her garden we would tackle that day. Oh how I loved to spend time with her "my adopted" grandma. Now I am grown and have my own children and when Evelyn was living here in Oak Harbor my mother would regularly take my son Justin to visit Evelyn. He enjoyed his visits with her. She was an inspiration, a beautiful soul and her memory will always be with me.
