The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Nelda Hastings can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolence From: Eleanor Griffith
Condolence: I've known Nelda since attending Havre High School. Nelda befriended me and Cathy, as it was quite an adjustment coming from a one room school and farm life to school in Havre. We attended the same Lutheran church too.

Nelda was influential in so many areas of my life; she helped me get into nurse's training in Great Falls. We were room mates for a time and I remember watching her write many letters to Frank, and besides studying she was already avidly knitting. She later encouraged me to attend MSU, where I got my BS in Nursing while she and Frank were living there. I remember babysitting Michael and Sue at that time. And during that time I met my husband, Skip.

We have stayed in touch over the years but as happens, life gets busy with growing family and I regret not having seen her recently.

Oh, I almost forgot, her cinnamon rolls were the best.

I will always remember Nelda fondly (as she would sign her cards and letters) and am saddened by her sudden passing. My sincere sympathy to you, Frank, all her children and also her sisters. I am sorry I can't attend her celebration of life but my husband had a stroke recently and can't be left alone. Again, my sincere condolences, Eleanor I

Condolence: Dear Frank and Family,

I have many wonderful memories of all of you! Nelda was simply the best - we'll hold her close to our hearts. Frank - remember the east coast trip - with the car breaking down, the lobster dinner at my parents and Nelda driving off in that older Ford convertible with all four children? My dad about had a heart attack worrying that the tires would fail on the long drive to Montana. Mike and I loved having you visit when we lived in Encinitas - your truck packed to the gills with furniture and what not! Please take good care of yourselves - blessings to your family. Love, Barb and Mike

Condolence From: Marilyn Potter
Condolence: Nelda and Frank were our sponsors when we arrived in the Netherlands in 1986. We became friends immediately and spent many hours together traveling, sharing dinners and holidays, playing games, going to flea markets. Our friendship continued long after we all retired from our government work abroad and we continue seeing each other in Friday Harbor and as late as Late November in Florida when we had a reunion of friends from Soesterberg in the Netherlands. Nelda was a good friend, a strong woman, and a wonderul mother and wife. My life has been enriched by just knowing her. My prayers go out to the family and especially to Frank her mate of 63 years. May she rest in peace. Mariyn Potter
