In the early 1990's, I joined Frank, Nelda, and Angela on a trip to Italy. The trip occurred during the Christmas season, and we were able to see many unique things because of the season.. While I have been friends with Angela many years, it takes special individuals like Frank and Nelda to welcome a complete stranger to their travel group. I feel blessed with getting to know Frank and Nelda during the trip.
Nelda was our caretaker. On the first day we stopped for lunch, the car trunk was opened and inside were a couple of cases of water, a case of tuna, a knife and a can opener. Each day Nelda reminded someone to buy a couple of pieces of fruit, a roll a piece and two pastries. Nelda gave us each a roll and then divided the tuna, fruit and pastries among all of us. I loved it that someone had organized lunch for us.
Nelda was so quietly supportive and I appreciated her sitting with me while Frank and Angela climbed many of the church towers. We didn't even have to talk we could just sit and observe all that was happening. Frequently she would check on how I was doing. We were going to so many places in each city. Once she mentioned how overwhelming it could get seeing all of the art and historical locations.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers during this time.
