KENNETH ALAN LONGSHORE
Kenneth Alan Longshore, age 55, Oak Harbor, died peacefully in his home on Monday, August 11, 2014.
Mr. Longshore was born at a US Army Hospital in Bad Cannstatt, Germany, on August 30, 1958, to Robert Louis Longshore, Jr. and Eleanor Stoney Longshore. He came to the United States as an infant with his family and lived in many places around the US. He graduated from Lake Braddock High School in Burke, VA. After high school, Ken worked for a roofing company for a short while before enlisting in the US Navy.
After twenty years, he retired from the Navy at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island as a sonar instructor, in 2000. He then became employed as a contractor at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., he lived in Waldorf, MD. Ken met Vickie Lee Gibson and her daughter Carlie Ann Kenny in May of 2000. He married Vickie on May 15, 2006.
Within a few months of marriage they moved to Whidbey Island. He continued his career as a sonar instructor employed at NOPF.
Ken was a gun enthusiast, and enjoyed home brewing beer and panning for gold. He loved to collect “boy toys,” and rebuilt two Harley Davidson motorcycles. He also enjoyed old cars, shooting pool, and fishing.
Ken is survived by his wife Vickie Lee, at home; his father, Robert Longshore, Jr., of White Stone, VA; his step-daughter, Carlie Ann Kenny, of Oak Harbor (currently attending Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, WA); three siblings: Marianne Werth (Robby) of Alexandria, VA, David Longshore (Kimberly) of Layton, UT and Lynda Penland (James) of Sumerduck, VA; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Longshore, in September 2013, and by a brother, Robert Louis Longshore III in 1958.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2014, 2:00 PM followed by a reception at Oak Harbor Lutheran Church, Pastor Jeffrey Spencer will officiate. Military Honors will be presented under the auspices of NAS Whidbey Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to Oak Harbor Lutheran Church.
