Long Time Friend

I needed to take a few days before writing my thoughts about someone I loved very much. I met Jim during H.S.years. Jim was a year ahead of me. I went to St. Paul and he went to La Serna. They had the better parties. There was always a goating rivalry, but teen boys what else would they know (not much). We both ended up at Cal Poly. We then became glued at the hip. We even lived at Howies Motel together for six months(sleeping arrangements were a little shady). Our football career ended and our business career started. Jim actually went to work for my dad on a power plant in Oxnard before taking a job with Bechtel in Page, Arizona. Jim eventually moved on and started working for SOHIO.I joined him at SOHIO for several years meeting him in places such as Prudoe Bay, Alaska, Anacortes, Washington, Pocattello, Id, and ofcourse the mulitple jobsites in the Bay area. Late 80s I moved on staying in touch with Jim over the years mostly by phone. Fast forward to this summer 2016, our buddy John Pettas (Pogo) called me and informed me that Jim received news that his treatments where no longer working. That was a horrible day for me, 100 fold for June and family. I set up a trip to see Jim and June with Pogo. Pogo and I spent Friday and Saturday with Jim. We drank beer, reminisced, and enjoyed each other like we where still at Cal Poly.Jim got out his photo books and I had forgotten that Cal Poly was a clothingg optional University. It had to be, with the amount of pictures that came out. Thank God we didn't have smart phones then. That last day that I saw Jim, as closer and closer to the time that Pogo an I were going to leave, Jim became less talkitive. When it was time for our goodbyes we all broke down in tears with baseballs in our throats we hugged one another knoing what this meant. I told Jim I loved him, be strong, and that the Good Lord blessed my life by putting you in it. I love you Jim,now you can go fishing with your dad again. June, you and your family are in our prayers. You and Jim are the lucky one, to have been able to have shared your lifes together.
