WANDA OLETA OSWALT

Wanda Oleta Oswalt, age 87, of Oak Harbor, passed away at her home on Friday, January 21, 2011, following a lengthy battle with leukemia.
Wanda was born in Rocky, Oklahoma, on December 7, 1923, to Buster and Stella (Kirk) Means. She moved with her family to Phoenix, Arizona, in the late 1930s, where she graduated from Phoenix Union High School. Wanda married Wendell C. Oswalt on November 21, 1941 in Phoenix. She was employed as an accountant for Arizona Public Service, retiring after twenty years. She moved to Whidbey Island and lived at Bush Point for several years, before relocating to Regency on Whidbey Assisted Living in 2002.
Wanda was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Oklahoma, Phoenix and finally Oak Harbor. She enjoyed singing alto in the church choir in Sun City, AZ. While in Arizona, she was a troop leader for the local Girl Scout Troop, and served as President of the PTA. Wanda was an avid golfer, and also enjoyed sewing, textile painting and oil painting.
Wanda is survived by her two children, Curtis Oswalt (Christine) of Greenbank and Sherry Ewald of Agoura, CA; three grandchildren: Curtis Oswalt Jr. of Chandler, AZ, April Lynn Oswalt of Payson, AZ and Patty Stone (Mike) of Camarillo, CA; one great-granddaughter, Chantelle Marie Tani; one sister, Edith Hillier of Ventura, CA; also, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Jim Ewald on Sept. 26, 2002; two sisters, Vera Nottingham and Evelyn Olson; and by her husband, Wendell C. Oswalt in 2007.
A Memorial Service will be Thursday, January 27, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at the Oak Harbor Church of Christ, 1000 NE Koetje St., Minister Joe Cook officiating.
