Wanda Meyer beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and friend of many passed away in her sleep Saturday, July 19th, at Home Place in Oak Harbor Washington. Wanda is survived by sons Robert (Marjorie) Meyer, Baton Rouge, LA and Whales Pass, AK, Ronald (Joan) Meyer, Auburn, WA, and daughter, who cared for her daily in her recent years, Cheryl Meyer, Oak Harbor, WA., two nephews, eight grandchildren and spouses and 10.9 great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

Wanda was born November 12th, 1924 in Ellensburg, WA to Leonard and Helen Swaffard. She graduated from Ellensburg High School. She married Robert Sylvester Meyer in Seattle, WA on September 18, 1942. With their three children, Wanda and Bob moved to Ketchikan, Alaska in 1947. After eleven years of involvement in the community and developing life long friendships in Ketchikan and especially Mountain Point, the family left Alaska, a year before statehood, and moved to Bainbridge Island, WA. The family lived in Kailua, Hi for a year in 1962 where Wanda & Bob developed a love for the Islands and its people. After returning to Bainbridge Island, they also lived on San Juan Island, WA and lived in Meyers Chuck, Alaska, an Alaskan Bush community, where they purchased property with their family. Bob & Wanda ran the local one room grocery store and Wanda became the local Postmistress for the community. In 1983 the two moved to Oak Harbor, WA. which allowed them to travel and see family. Wanda’s husband, Bob, passed away May 19, 1985.

Wanda was a member of the Alaska Pioneer Women’s Auxiliary and the Bainbridge Island Orthopedic Guild. Wanda was the president of the Enlisted Men’s Wives’ club in Walla Walla, WA during WWII. She also volunteered at Whidbey General Hospital and was a Camp Fire Girls Leader. Wanda was an avid reader and knitter who kept her children and grandchildren warm physically and spiritually. Wanda was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church of Oak Harbor where Funeral Mass will be held July 26th at 10:00a.m., followed by a celebration of Wanda’s life held at Best Western Harbor Plaza. A graveside committal will take place at Maple Leaf Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Children’s Hospital Foundation, P.O.
