Obituary for Susie Marie Moore
Susie Marie Shrader Moore, 86, passed peacefully in her sleep on January 10, 2016, in her home in Freeland, Washington, surrounded by her children. She was born June 2, 1929, on an Appalachian mountaintop in West Virginia, a true “coal miner’s daughter.”
Susie was the cherished wife of William Franklin (Frank) Moore, deceased November 13, 2015. They were married for sixty-six years. Frank and Susie were the beloved parents of three children: Cathi Sue Moore Sheneman (Mike), of Denton, Texas; Jeanne Marie Moore (Art Bell), of Pt. Townsend, Washington; Lance Franklin Moore and his wife Shellie Ruth Bowman Moore, of Langley, Washington; five grandchildren; Matthew (and Brooke) Phillips, Kate (and John) Harrison-Kendall, Meagan Betts, Elijah Moore and Golda Moore and five great-grandchildren.
Susie brightened all of the offices she worked in over the years, including doctors’ offices, Seattle schools, and Seattle Pacific University. Active in Bible Study Fellowship, she served in many roles at North Seattle Alliance Church. She was also one of the founders of the Queen Anne Help Line, formed in Seattle in the 1980s to serve neighbors in need.
Susie’s life was an example of generosity, artistic cleverness, strength, faith, playfulness, style, and unconditional love. She was an inspired and an inspiring spirit. She was a mentor, a mother, and a teacher to so many. She was the one everyone trusted with their children. She was everyone’s Momma Sue. She treated every person with the attention and respect of a friend. Strangers, there were none. She blessed our lives. We are better people because of her.
The family is grateful for the support of Island Home Nursing, Whidbey General’s Home Health Care, and Hospice of Whidbey General Hospital. Each helped make it possible for her to stay in her own home, looked after by loving caregivers and family. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Queen Anne Help Line, 311 W.
