Robert attended Tuscany Hills Elementary School, where his mother was a teacher, Canyon Lake Middle School and Temescal Canyon High School (for his Freshman year) in Canyon Lake. In 2004 he moved with his family to Freeland. Robert attended South Whidbey High School, graduating in 2007.
Robert was a passionate, talented athlete, and was the Cascade League’s First Team All-Conference Running Back and the SWHS MVP Offensive Player in 2006, having played running back for the South Whidbey Varsity Football Team. He also played some baseball and soccer. Robert loved music, and enjoyed playing acoustic, bass and electric guitar, as well as the drums and piano. He wrote and composed songs, and played briefly in a band in California called “Halfway Decent.”
Robert was energetic, outgoing, lovable, and made friends easily. Growing up in Canyon Lake, CA, he played four different team sports per year, starting at age three. He loved fishing, wakeboarding, water skiing and camping. In his elementary school’s Circus Club, he was known as “Wipeout” the Clown, where he mastered, performed and taught the unicycle, juggling and other acrobatic skills. He attended Skagit Valley College’s Whidbey Campus and attended a semester at Pacific Lutheran University. Robert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland.
Robert is survived by his parents, Bruce and Sharon Knight of Freeland; sister Jamie Metcalf (Dustin) of La Quinta, CA; sister Lisa Zickafoose (David) of Carlsbad, CA; nephews Cash and Carter Metcalf and Logan Zickafoose; grandfather David Knight of Sun Lakes, AZ; aunts and uncles, Kathy and Bob Rogelstad and Larry and Wendy Knight, all of San Diego, CA, Janet and Ken Owens of Ramona, CA and Jim and Kori Volkov of La Mesa, CA; also, several cousins. From the Family of Robert:

We have established the annual "Robert Knight Scholarship" to 1) memorialize our son each year; 2) recognize and reward a deserving South Whidbey High School student-athlete who has grown and achieved as a result of his or her involvement in high school athletics; and 3) remind all students each year of the devastating affect that driving under the influence has on more than just the driver.

Tax-deductible donations can be made payable to "Trinity Lutheran Church." Please include the memo "Robert Knight Scholarship", or donations can be made online at their website in Robert's name: www.trinitylutheranfreeland.org

We ask that anyone wishing to honor Rob's life make a donation of any amount rather than sending flowers, cards, or other gifts. The cumulative affect of these donations can have a significant impact on the life of a deserving young student-athlete who has made changes in their life and the lives of others around them as a result of their involvement in organized high school athletics.

Sharon and I appreciate everyone's prayers, thoughts, and kind words in this most difficult of times. If you wish to express your feelings to us personally, please contact us through email and save your hard-earned money, a stamp, and a tree. Sharon - svknight@comcast.net and Bruce beknight@comast.net
