ROBERT E. HADLEY
Robert “Bob” Hadley, 69, went to be with his Maker on Monday, October 13, 2008. Following a lengthy illness and courageous battle, Bob passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.
Bob was born on April 27, 1939, in Dayton, Washington, to Elmer and Harriet (Jones) Hadley. He met the love of his life, Jolene Everding, and they were married on November 18, 1961. Bob and Jolene were blessed with three wonderful and loving children, Shona, Candace and Robert (Rob). Bob has now been reunited in heaven with Shona, who passed away in 1985. He is survived by his wife Jolene, daughter Candace and her fiancé Troy Jones, son Robert (Rob), granddaughter Kayla Hackerott, and his faithful little buddy, Skeeter the Pomeranian. He is also survived by numerous relatives and friends.
In 1954, at the age of 15, Bob joined the Washington National Guard. This was followed by his entry into the U.S. Navy in 1956. During his service with the Navy, Bob received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and five Good Conduct Awards. Bob retired from the Navy on September 22, 1975 at NAS Whidbey. While in the Navy, he worked and/or trained in various locations, including the Philippines, Japan, Maryland, Tennessee, Alaska, California and Washington. Upon his Navy retirement, Bob returned to work in Civil Service, working at the Base for the Fire Department, Public Works, and Ground Electronics until his final retirement, which finalized his 38-year career.
All who knew Bob were truly blessed. He had a huge heart, gentle soul and was very loved. He leaves behind many relatives and friends who miss him dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church, 590 N. Oak Harbor St., on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., Pastor Juan Palm officiating. Full Military Honors will be provided by NAS Whidbey Island Honor Guard. A private family graveside committal will take place at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Concordia Lutheran Church Building Fund.
