RICHARD KENNETH VAN SCHOICK
Richard Kenneth Van Schoick, age 66, longtime resident of Coupeville, entered his Heavenly Home on Sunday, September 14, 2008, following a lengthy illness.
Richard was born in Quincy, Illinois, on October 30, 1941, and then adopted by H. Kenneth Van Schoick and Kathryn Frances (Hundman) Van Schoick of Peoria, Illinois. The family relocated to Seattle in the 1950’s. Richard graduated from Blanchet High School and then attended the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Washington, majoring in art.
Richard resided in Hawaii for seventeen years, working as an event coordinator for a hotel chain. He then managed a band, and traveled to Japan and across America as a music promoter. Moving to Coupeville in the early nineties to care for his parents, Richard became employed by the Johnsonville Sausage Co. as a marketing representative in the Northwest. Most recently, he was employed by Wal-Mart in Oak Harbor.
Richard was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Coupeville, and the Knights of Columbus. He had a great interest and much talent in art, photography, skiing and a love of travel. Richard loved his church, his community and his island he called home.
