MARY JOANNE BOYLE
Mary Joanne Boyle, age 83, longtime Oak Harbor resident, loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother and Great-great-grandmother, passed away at Whidbey General Hospital on Thursday, January 12, 2012, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Boyle was adopted by her loving family, Lawrence Henderson and Ada Pearl (Lewis) Gillies in London, Ontario, Canada, in October 1928. She was raised in London, Kitchener and Ottawa, Ontario. After high school graduation, Joanne attended the Kitchener-Waterloo Nursing School. She married David Frederick Boyle in September 1949 and were blessed with seven wonderful children. They owned and operated the A&W Root Beer franchise in Sarnia, Ontario for many years. In August 1963, they moved to Houston, TX, where they continued to operate an A&W franchise and several other restaurants.
In 1991, Joanne moved to Oak Harbor. She attended the Bible Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bingo at Regency on Whidbey Assisted Living. Joanne was an avid doll collector, and also enjoyed decorating for Christmas.
Joanne is survived by her seven children: John Warren Boyle (Marie) and Susan D’Alessandro, both of Oak Harbor; Thomas Frederick Boyle and David James Boyle, both of Houston, TX; Bennett Joel Boyle of Katy, TX, Candace Lynn Everett (Richard) and Janey Dianne Peterman (Forrest), both of Pearland, TX; seventeen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, David Frederick Boyle, and her parents, Pearl and Laurie Gillies.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Bible Baptist Church, Pastor Robert Sargent officiating. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery.
