MANUEL S. EUGENIO
Manuel S. Eugenio, age 77, of Oak Harbor, Washington, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009, at his daughter’s Oak Harbor home, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Eugenio was born in Cabanatuan City, Nueve Ecija, Philippines, on November 17, 1931, to Rafael S. Eugenio and Rosario (Sarmiento) Eugenio. He was raised in the Philippines. Manuel married Guadalupe M. Taitano in Saipan on April 29,1964. He had been a resident of Saipan since 1960. In 2004, Manuel moved to Oak Harbor. While in Saipan, he was involved in the construction industry, and participated in the building of the local hospital. Manuel also owned and operated the Micco Construction Supply Co. of Saipan, and was later the office manager for the Trouble Desk at the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Manuel was also the first President of the Filipino-American Association in Saipan.
He loved to play mah jong and was an ardent bowler. He also enjoyed watching game shows, especially The Price Is Right, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
Manuel is survived by his six children: Rosario “Charito” Araceley (Reiley) of Oak Harbor, WA; Vincent Eugenio (Diane) of Manassas, VA, Ernest Eugenio of Saipan, Rafael Eugenio (Rosita) of Guam, Daniel Eugenio (Mariana) of Saipan and Marco Eugenio of Buena Park, CA; sixteen grandchildren: Eireng, Xavier, Regina, Raquel, Robin, Ryan, Roxanne, Richard, Christopher, Matthew, Carmina, Charmaine, Aria, Reiley Jr., Vincent Jr. and Alvince; seven siblings: Rosario Jose of Mississauga, ONT, Rafael Eugenio, Jr. ( Isadora) of Lupao, Nueve Ecija, PI, Isauro Eugenio (Myrna) of Saipan, Angelica Villaroman (Emmanuel Villaroman) of Astoria, New York, Aurelio Eugenio of Saipan, Myrna Bacero of San Jose, Nueve Ecija, PI, Rudolpho Sarmiento(Merlinda) of San Jose, Bulacan, PI; also, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Guadalupe T. Eugenio on January 31, 2003; also by his parents Rafael S. Eugenio, Sr., on February 5, 1945; Rosario Bantog Sarmiento on October 12, 1994.
A Rosary and Mass will be said at St. Joseph of Cupertino Catholic Church on NAS Whidbey Island starting 10:00 a.m. and a reception will follow at the family home, 710 SW Regency Dr., Oak Harbor.
