Joseph Dwain Saxon

I am Joseph Dwain Saxon, the youngest brother of JoAnn Saxon. JoAnn was always happy no matter what. It was a rare occasion to see her not smiling. She was instantly friends with anyone. When my friends came over they enjoyed talking with JoAnn even though she was five or six years older than they were. The following are some of my memories of JoAnn: JoAnn taking care of her two youngest siblings, me and my brother Gary Michael Saxon. All five of us children playing games in our yard such as kick the can, catch, tag, hide and go seek, etc. JoAnn was as active in these games as any of us. Playing in a large field across from our home near the grave yard. There was a large bent pipe that was shaped such that one child could climb to the top of the pipe and the other children could push or sit on the rest of the pipe to send the end which the one child climbed way into the air. It was a real thrill to go so high and so fast. Going to the sawdust pile and sliding down it. JoAnn riding her bicycle everywhere. Going to the skating rink with JoAnn. JoAnn taught me how to drive our car back and forth down the driveway . We did this over and over again. JoAnn worked at a fast food drive in and when someone's order was not made correctly (like putting mayo on when they asked for no mayo) she would bring the food home mostly for me and my brother. Shortly after marrying Ben Tucker, JoAnn and Ben lived with our family for a few months. It was good to have JoAnn back home and I got to know Ben better. I remember one time when JoAnn took me to the bank and asked me to go in the bank and cash Ben's paycheck which she just signed his name to in front of me. I tried but the bank people asked me who signed the check and I said something that led them to not cash the check ( I don't remember what I said). I have never had a good poker face. JoAnn was not mad about the failure. I can't recall JoAnn ever being mad, she always seemed happy. JoAnn let me drive her new Corvair car and later on she let me drive her new 1966 red Impala with a 396 engine. It was a really fast car. In 1966 I lived with JoAnn and Ben in their home in Thomasville for the summer. JoAnn had gotten me a job at the Thomasville Chandler hamburger place. It was lots of fun being there and going with JoAnn on all her chores there. Again I got to know Ben a little more. In 1973 me and my brother Mike installed a whole house central air conditioner in JoAnn's home in Thomasville. She needed the air conditioner for her new hair salon. It was fun to be there and work together. In the 1970s JoAnn was really involved with Citizen Band (CB) radios both in the car and in the home. She got me involved and helped me learn about tuning them for max range etc. Again fun times. JoAnn was comfortable to be around. I don't recall her ever giving me trouble as the older sister. She usually wanted to go do fun things like swimming, skating, playing, etc. She was smart and could do almost anything she wanted to do. She was a hard worker and got along with everyone. I miss her now and will miss her for a long time. I look forward to seeing her again in heaven.
