Obituary for Gary Willard Pleasant

Gary Pleasant, 72, passed away on March 16, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born January 8, 1944 in Spokane, Washington. He attended Garfield Elementary School and graduated from North Central High School. He remained friends with many of his classmates over the years. In his 20 years as a resident of Oak Harbor, he made many more friends, especially his coffee group.
Uncle Sam called and he served 3 years in the U.S. Army. He worked various jobs for the Department of Defense, before retiring in 2000.
He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and grandfather. One of his fondest memories was the time he spent coaching his sons in their sporting activities. Among his many hobbies were restoration of his 1972 Chevy and playing his guitar.
He is survived and will be missed, by his wife Motoko, daughters, Akina and Ayumi; sons Scott (Danna) and Mark Pleasant; sisters Leanna Shauvin, Cindy (Cliff) Stevens; and cousin Malene (Dick) McDonald.
Preceding him in death are mother, Ruth, and stepfather, Reinhold Ottmar, sister Kelcie Ottmar and cousin Cliff Gillam.
It was Gary’s wishes to be cremated. A memorial service will be held for him in Spokane, at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorial gifts to be sent to North Whidbey Community Harvest, 1090 SE Hathaway St., Oak Harbor, WA. 98277.
“When tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart…for every time you think of me, I’m right here in your heart”.
