Obituary for Ellerd G "Andy" Anderson

Ellerd G "Andy" Anderson
Andy was born in Seattle, Washington on September 23rd, 1941 to Grant & Florence Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald Moss & Richard (Dick) Moss, his eldest son Allen Anderson, grandson Adam Edwards and granddaughter Amanda Newlun.

Andy battled heart disease for more than 36 years, outliving what any doctor ever expected. He was a warrior with the drive to fight till the very end. He died peacefully at home, with grace and dignity, surrounded by his family on July 21st 2016.

Andy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol Anderson, his two children, Kimmi Cebe and Raymond Anderson, 7 grandchildren, Anton Cebe, Andrew White, Nicole (Coly) Anderson, twins Jeremey & Jennifer Anderson and Raymie Anderson, Braunwyn Larson and great grandchildren Tucker White and Isabella Cervantes.

Andy had many great friends, including but certainly not limited to, Michael Whitman and his wife Laurie, Priscilla White and her family who all work for Andy’s family business, Kenneth & Diana Vaughan, Lee & Betty McFarland, Beverly & Gary Sheehan, Steve Clarke, Alicia Sivertsen, Richard & Teresa Terry and their son Justin. Without their love and support Andy’s family would have been lost…….Thank you!

Andy was a furrier by trade. He began his career in the fur trade at the Seattle Fur Exchange. At the age of 18 he got a job working for The Alaska Artic Fur Company in Seattle. His father and mother had a hand at working in the trade, as they both worked there too.. He learned the trade quickly and with the help of his father, the family business, Anderson’s Furs, Inc., was formed in 1969. It all began in the basement of his family home where they designed fur trim and garments for cold weather outfitters.

The Alaskan Pipe Line was under construction and the warmth of real fur was in high demand for the workers on the North Slope. The fur trim boom was on! Eddie Bauer, Cabela’s, Sport Caster, Black Manufacturing and Nils were among the cold weather outfitters graced by the specialized fur trim designed by Andy and his crew of furriers. Andy’s mother Florence, his Aunt Maxine, Aunt Norma, his three children and many other family members and friends all worked at Anderson’s Furs and it flourished beyond expectation.

At a young age Andy’s father taught him love of the outdoors….. Andy became a lifelong outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting and gardening. He never missed a chance to take his family hunting and fishing. Camping at Fort Casey State Park was a favorite! He knew all the best spots to land a salmon. And if they weren’t biting, he knew where to find Rock Cod. He taught all his children to properly handle and shoot firearms. And when hunting season opened, the deer camp always had deer hanging in it. He never missed an opportunity to hunt for pheasant & ducks with his dogs Duke and Duchess.

Andy’s love for the fur trade, the great outdoors and cooking came easy to him. But he made sure to pass on his knowledge to anyone who wanted to learn. He was very picky about the order of things, which showed in everything he did. Perfection was always his goal! He was a great teacher, mentor and friend!! He left us knowing that he taught someone how to do what he loved to do, and if you were lucky enough to learn from the best, you better make sure to share it with others too.

Canning his harvest, making pickles and smoking salmon was always an annual event. But one of his greatest talents was making pickles!! He will always be remembered as “The Best Pickle Maker” ever! His recipe for making pickles was called “Ducky’s Dills” and it has been long sought after. Those who have tried to perfect his pickling method have yet to make pickles like Andy. But the legacy he laid before us will continue each year as we try to make pickles like he did!

Andy loved to cook. His Clam Chowder, Smoked Salmon, Spaghetti and Macaroni Salad were among his legendary recipes; recipes the most famous chefs would be proud to serve. He even made home brew and root beer and prize winning wine.

Andy was a man of his word, a man of integrity, a man who fought with all his heart and soul to live life to its fullest. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. He has left us with many memories…we should forever remember him by sharing his life adventures, sharing his recipes and sharing his warrior spirit for life. He made an indelible mark on this world and there is no doubt he is preparing to do the same in the afterlife….

Until we meet again Andy…..
