DOUGLAS JOSEPH CLARKE
Douglas Joseph Clarke, age 82, of Oak Harbor, passed away at Careage of Whidbey on Monday, March 11, 2013, following a brief illness.
Mr. Clarke was born in Lincolnshire, England, on November 20, 1930, to Joseph and Georgina (Ogle) Clarke. He came to Canada in 1956, settling first in Ontario, and later moving to Lethbridge, Alberta. Douglas was married to Edith Minty on November 2, 1968 in Great Falls, Montana. The couple lived in Lethbridge and then Cranbrook and Surrey, B.C. before moving to Burlington, where they lived for nine years. The Clarkes moved to Oak Harbor in 2005. Doug had been a dairyman for many years. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He and Edith enjoyed being caretakers at Deception Pass and Saltwater State Parks. He had been a member of the Oak Harbor Senior Center, the Oak Harbor Odd Fellows and the Mount Vernon Moose Lodge. He was also a member of the Bible Baptist Church.
Doug is survived by his children: Gina Bowen of Astoria, OR and Joseph Clarke of Lethbridge, Alberta; his step-children, Kelly Burt (Paul) of Oak Harbor, Shannon Maystruck (Lyle) of Regina, Saskatchewan and Nick Hayes of Lethbridge, Alberta; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Michael Clarke and one sister Eileen Holmes, both in England; also, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Edith on February 8, 2011; by his step-son Dennis Haydychuk (1981); by a brother, Roland Clarke and a nephew Neil Clarke.
A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, April 27, 2013, 1:00 PM at the Bible Baptist Church, 1701 Harns Road, Oak Harbor, WA 98277. Memorials are suggested to the Bible Baptist Church. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and condolences at www.whidbeymemorial.com.
