Dorothy Haynes, 91, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, January 2, 2014.

Dorothy accepted Christ at the age of 30 and over the years served her Lord in several areas. She especially enjoyed using her gift of hospitality, acting as a hostess and greeter for the women’s Bible study.

Although many were encouraged by her warmth and expressions of love, her family was her first priority. Throughout 70 years of marriage she lovingly cared for her husband and children.

Dorothy had seven children: Pat Smith (Tom) of Oak Harbor, WA; Jane Mowbray of Florence, OR; Jim Haynes, Jr. (Christie) of Manhattan Beach, CA; Reena Sliwa (Bob) of La Mesa, CA; Rita Cox (Ed) of Moorpark, CA; Tim Haynes of Moorpark, CA; and Linda Haynes, who died in infancy.

Dorothy is survived by her sister Helen Powell, 6 children, 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, Dorothy was predeceased in life by her father William DeLong, her mother Zeta, her husband Jim, her sister Mary, and her brothers Kenneth, Bill, and Donald.

Dorothy’s favorite Scripture verse was Psalm 46:10,
“Be still and know that I am God.”
