DIANA LEE MITCHELL
Diana Lee Mitchell, age 53, longtime Oak Harbor resident, passed away at Island Hospital, Anacortes, Washington, on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Diana was born in Sturgis, Michigan, on September 16, 1961, to Harry Gruber and Delores (Patterson) Gruber. She spent most of her early years in Freeport, Texas, where she attended school. In 1993, she moved to Oak Harbor, on Whidbey Island.
Diana enjoyed gardening, especially raising roses. She was a skilled woodwork artisan. She was a friendly, outgoing person with a huge heart. Diana loved baking cookies and making candy for family and friends. She was an extremely positive person, and even in the pain which she encountered during her illness, she was a selfless giver, many times ministering even to professionals and caregivers whose job it was to administer healing.\
Above all, Diana loved family. She is survived by her three children: Michael Gruber and wife Lucy of Tampa, FL, Bruce Broussard and wife Jennifer of Oak Harbor, WA and Patricia Buday of Medford, OR; three grandchildren: Jazmyne, Alexya and Angel; four sisters: Donna Reasonover and husband Ed of Ottawa, IL, Karen Saman of Pearland, TX, Doris Small of Angleton, TX, Kim Svetlik and husband James of Brazoria, TX and Vickie Mieske and husband Aaron of Ottawa, IL; also, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday, February 14, 2015, 1:00 PM at Whidbey Memorial Chapel. Memorial donations may be made in Diana’s name c/o Bruce Broussard, 2059 Sage Lane, Oak Harbor, WA 98277. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and condolences at www.whidbeymemorial.com.
