Obituary for Colleen M. Cross

COLLEEN M. CROSS
Colleen M. Cross, age 87, of Coupeville, passed away at Careage of Whidbey on Sunday, June 3, 2012.
Mrs. Cross was born in Dayton, WA, on Sept. 21, 1924, to Otto and Bessie (Fletcher) Winnett. She was raised in Dayton, and then moved to Grand Coulee, where she graduated from high school. Colleen married Ray Cross May 2, 1942 in Grand Coulee. Ray was a high school coach and they moved to various locations throughout Eastern Washington over the years, including Metaline Falls. Later, Colleen moved to Barrow, AK, where she was employed in a grocery store. She then relocated to Anchorage, where she was a bartended for fifteen years. After this, she retired and lived with various family members.
Colleen was a member of the American Legion Post #129, the VFW Post #7392 and Fleet Reserve Association Branch #97. She enjoyed exercise and regularly swam at the community pool.
Colleen is survived by her four daughters Marina Spencer of Vacaville, CA, Connie Hofer (Jim) of Prescott, WA, Christy Brown of Carson City, NV and Renee Christian of Oak Harbor; her son, Ray Cross of Bothell; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; also, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Alura Barr and Vicki LynnCox; brother Larry Winnett; and a granddaughter Melanie Wood.
A Memorial Service will take place Saturday, June 16, 2012, at 3:00 PM at the American Legion Hall in Oak Harbor.
