CHRISTOPHER ROBERT HELIE
Christopher Robert Helie, age 38, of Oak Harbor, passed away at his home on Thursday, June 2, 2016, following a battle with cancer.
Mr. Helie was born in Manchester, New Hampshire on November 5, 1977. He was raised in Weare, N.H., and graduated from John Stark Regional High School. He joined the US Navy on May 10, 2001. On August 30, 2005, Chris married Erlina “Emily” Recana. Chris’ military career included the following duty stations: VFA 102 (2001-2008), VFA 27 (2008-2012); VQ3 (Oct. 2012-Feb. 2013); and VAQ 129 (March 2013-present). Christopher was made an Honorary Chief Petty Officer on May 3, 2016. Christopher dedicated his life to family and his naval career to volunteering for the benefit of his sailors and the community. Chris was a lifelong NE Patriot fan, enjoying football and motorcycles.
Chris is survived by his wife Erlina “Emily” and son Brayden, parents: Robert L. Helie of Manchester, N.H., Elaine F. Gray of New Boston, N.H.; step-father Keith L. Lion and step-mother Deborah A. Lion, both of Wolfeboro, N.H.; his sister Samantha Trask (Thomas) of Center Conway, N.H. and children Alyson and Phineas; sister Allison Helie and two brothers, Patrick and Benjamin Helie, all of Manchester, N.H.; grandparents Frank and Elaine Gray of Hooksett, N.H.; step-grandparents Eliot and Connie Sargent of Brentwood, N.H.; along with numerous cousins and other relatives.
A Memorial Service will take place at the NASWI Base Chapel on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, 10:00 AM. Services will take place at a later date in Chris’ home state of New Hampshire. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and condolences at www.whidbeymemorial.com, and updates will be posted at that site.
