CHESTER HARDING GLENN
Chester Harding Glenn, age 90, of Oak Harbor, passed away at his home in Oak Harbor on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Glenn was born in Decker, Indiana, on July 2, 1920, to Howard and Lillie (Hopper) Glenn. He was raised in Indiana. On December 26, 1941, he married Muriel Hennessey in Seattle. Chester served his country with honor in the United States Navy during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict. He lived in Seattle and then moved to Whidbey Island in 2003. Chester was a member of the Navy Fleet Reserve and the USS Mann Reunion Organization. While in Seattle, he attended the Lake City Assembly of God. He enjoyed listening to Big Band and Lawrence Welk, and was a sports enthusiast.
Chester is survived by three children, Pat Wallace (Glenn), Peggy Glenn and Chester Glenn, all of Oak Harbor; three grandchildren, Dr. Melissa Dearey (Paul) of Hull, England, Mike Wallace of Oak Harbor and Jonah Wallace (Kathy) of Puyallup; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Frank Glenn (Shirley) of Mt. Carmel, IL and Vaughn Glenn of Princeton, IN; also, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife Muriel on March 1, 1996; also, by two sisters, Juanita Stackhouse and Beulah Hendrix.
A Private Family Graveside with Military Honors will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and condolences at www.whidbeymemorial.com.
