CHARLES J. JOHNSON
Charles J. Johnson, age 81, longtime former McKinleyville resident, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013, at Regency on Whidbey Harbor Care in Oak Harbor, Washington.
Mr. Johnson was born in Bogalusa, LA, on March 31, 1932, to Charlie and Gladys (Applewhite) Johnson. He moved with his family to Eureka at the age of four. He lived in Picayune, MS, at various times, but most of his young years in Eureka, where he graduated from Eureka High School. Charles married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Diane Shackelton on December 12, 1951, in Eureka. In 1955, the couple moved to McKinleyville, where they raised four children and remained for thirty-five years. In 1994, Charles and Pat moved to Redding, and then to Oak Harbor, Washington, in 2011.
Charles was employed as the manager of the Eureka-Cutten Services Dept. for eighteen years, and later the McKinleyville Services Dept, retiring in 1990. He was exceptionally gifted in woodworking and carpentry, and built two homes, the last one in McKinleyville. They remained in the same home for the entire thirty-five years of their residency there. Charles was a member of the Eureka Kiwanis and the McKinleyville Rotary.
Charles is survived by his loving wife Patricia “Pat” Johnson, at home in Oak Harbor, WA; three children: Marian Estelle Johnson and partner Barbara Shaw of Oak Harbor, WA, Lori Janette Garreau and husband Christian of Alaska and Key West, FL and Edith Delight “Dee” Madden and husband Michael of Redding; an “adopted” daughter Suzanne Bost and husband Eric of Sacramento; two grandchildren, Theresa “Terri” Diane Lamoreaux and Jessica Dawn Lamoreaux; a brother, Gary Lee Johnson and wife Linda of Bellingham, WA; numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his son Charles Allan Johnson; by a grandson, Christopher Allan Lamoreaux and by a sister, Gloria Adell Isaacs.
