CECILIA LEONARD
Cecilia Leonard, of Coupeville, passed away at Island Hospital in Anacortes on Saturday, July 5, 2014, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Leonard was born in Hong Kong on October 13, 1939. In 1944 she moved with her family to Sautow, Canton, China, and attended schools there. After the takeover of mainland China in 1949, her family lost everything. They eventually returned to Hong Kong, where Cecilia attended Catholic schools.
In 1960, at the age of twenty, Cecilia emigrated to the United States, coming to San Francisco. She moved to los Angeles to live near her brother. Attending Los Angeles City Community College, she learned English, and received an AA degree in bookkeeping and accounting.
On December 30, 1971, Cecilia married Stuart K. Leonard in Los Angeles. She continued her education at Pepperdine University and received her BA degree in accounting. The couple moved to San Diego in 1976. Eventually, Cecilia became chief accountant for Saddleback Community College. She and her husband were members of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Valley Center, north of San Diego.
Cecilia and Stuart purchased property in the Pauma Valley, San Diego County, where they lied happily for a number of years before moving to Coupeville in 2011. She was a member of St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Langley.
Cecilia loved music, and enjoyed using her God-given vocal talent to touch the lives of others. She enjoyed playing the piano as well. She was a giving and generous person and worked as a volunteer for a number of different charities. She was beautiful both inside and out. Her heart was with the poor, sick and lonely.
Cecilia is survived by her husband Stuart, at home in Coupeville; step-son Lance Leonard and his wife Lindia of Santa Cruz, CA; two step-daughters, Cheryl Blaine and husband Steve of Carlsbad, CA and Deborah Malinowski and husband Ed of West Hills, CA; five step-grandchildren; brother Eric Lee and wife Carolyn of North Las Vegas, NV; sisters Theresa Lee of Walnut, CA and Sister Claire in Taiwan; and numerous other siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Langley on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will precede from 9 to 11, with a reception following the Mass. Cremation will follow. Memorials are suggested to St. Hubert’s Catholic Church, 804 – 3rd St., Langley, WA 98260.
