BARBARA JEAN WEYER

Barbara Jean Weyer, 86, longtime Oak Harbor resident, died at Regency on Whidbey Harbor Care on Friday, October 30, 2009
Mrs. Weyer was born in Renton on Dec. 19, 1922 to Delina (Tamborini) Richards. She attended Catholic schools, and graduated from Renton High School just prior to World War II. Barbara attended Seattle University, receiving a Nursing Degree. She served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II.
On Feb. 22, 1947, Barbara married Curtis L. Weyer in Renton. The couple lived in Seattle, and Barbara was employed as a Registered Nurse at Providence Hospital. She returned to school, receiving an Advanced Degree in Public Health from the University of Washington. She was then employed as a school nurse for the Seattle Public Schools. In 1976 she and Curtis moved to Oak Harbor, where he built a home for them at Mariners Cove. Barbara pioneered the school nurse program for the Oak Harbor Public Schools, and was employed there until retirement.
Barbara was an avid, all-around athlete. She had been the only woman on the Renton High School tennis team. She also enjoyed bowling and golfing. She was a member of the Whidbey Golf and Country Club.
Barbara is survived by her husband Curtis; three children: Lawrence Weyer (Karen) of Goldendale, Barbee Twaddell (Keith) of Richmond Beach and Jan Weyer of Lynnwood; five grandchildren: Kelle Hagen (Steve) of Blaine, Kevin Weyer, Jennifer and Nicole Twaddell, all of Seattle and Carly Engstrom of Lynnwood; and four great-grandchildren, Aubrie, Addy, Anika and Asher Hagen.
