Obituary for Warren Bromley Nichelin

Warren “Nick” Nichelin, born in Bremerton, WA on November 27,1941 to Warren and Florence Nichelin, passed-away peacefully after a long courageous health battle at his own home on Whidbey Island on August 7th, 2021.

Nick was the oldest of five siblings. Many wonderful memories swimming and fishing were made during his early years when they lived on Lake Kitsap in Bremerton. Later the family moved to North Seattle where he graduated from Shoreline High School in 1959.

Immediately following High School, Nick enlisted in the US Navy at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He served as Quartermaster-Signalman Watch Stander on the USS Cusk and later as the Quartermaster – Inertial Navigation Operator on the USS Caloosahatchee.

He met and married his first wife Linda Barrett in 1967, and together they had two children, Angel Vogt, and Holly Gooding. After his divorce from Linda, Nick met Carole Peterson in Seattle in December of 1988 and in May of 1989, 5 months later, they were married in Bellevue. At that time Nick worked at Putz Golf Range and Superstore as a Pro Golf Instructor and in Sales. Later he worked in construction and built many homes including five for he and Carole, 1 in Bothel, 1 in Oregon and 3 on Whidbey Island. During his retirement Nick loved to restore 1930’s trucks and cars as well as working in his vegetable garden. He and Carole also enjoyed taking many adventurous road trips.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother Brian Nichelin, his nephew, Tyler Hook, his grandson by marriage, David Schlosser, daughter by marriage, Karri Porter and his son by marriage, Gregg Peterson.

He is survived by his wife Carole Nichelin, sisters; Diane Hook (Dan), Renee Jacobson, brothers; Ron Nichelin (Domanique), and Brent Nichelin, daughters; Angel Vogt (Mike), Holly Gooding (Jason) Son by marriage, Jim Peterson (Amanda). Grandchildren; Zach Schlosser, Hunter and Connor Vogt, Riley, Lexi, Caden and Carter Peterson and many nieces and nephews.

Nick’s favorite scripture was found in John 14:1-3. “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.” His final message was “Tell the Grandkids, I will have a “new’ address-“Heaven”.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 9th at 2:00 pm at the Island Church in Langley, WA.

Donations may be made in Nick’s memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at www.t2t.org or also in his memory at Island Church in Langley, WA.

I would like to thank Whidbey Health Hospice for their help and care as well as express my gratitude for all the help from Nick’s friends, church, family etc. Your help gave me strength to take a day at a time. I have felt all your love and prayers. Thank you so much.
