Seth H. Seablom, Architect
November 10,1937 - June 13,2020

Seth passed away peacefully at his home on Orcas Island with his wife and daughter by his side. He had suffered a stroke three weeks earlier.

Seth was born in Seattle to Ann and Seth A. Seablom of Brunei Mawr, WA. He spent much of his childhood and early teens on his beloved grandparents’ farm on Lopez Island. He traveled extensively throughout the world for pleasure and work but always considered the San Juans to the best place on earth.

Seth graduated from Renton High School, received his B.Arch. From the UW, his M. Arch. and Master of City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania and received several prestigious awards including a Fulbright scholarship to Denmark and the Rome Prize in Landscape Architecture. Despite his impressive credentials he was a very humble man.

Seth was never happier than when he was working either professionally or as an amateur carpenter building a play house for his daughter Angela. His professional career took him to several continents as a teacher, architectural designer and illustrator. Many of his favorite projects were done for Jones and Jones in Seattle and the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park where he worked as a consultant for nearly 20 years. He also enjoyed writing and illustrating children’s books. He and his wife Victoria formed Seablom Design Books and published The Great Mukilteo To Friday Harbor Auto Race two weeks before the birth of their daughter.

Seth will be remembered by many as a man of much creative talent who brought the projects he worked on to life in his beautiful drawings but more importantly as a kind, unassuming man who loved his family, his friends and his work. He will be greatly missed.

Rest in Peace sweet man.

There will be no service at Seth’s request. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Seth was predeceased by his parents and his brother Gary. He is survived by Victoria his wife of fifty years, their daughter Angela, many loving nieces and nephews and two devoted little dogs who would not leave his side in his final days.

The family has requested no flowers at this time.

Seth was my introduction to the Pacific northwest. We first met in Oslo 53 years ago. I learned from Seth then about Seattle and its cultural and natural similarities to Scandinavia. I moved to Seattle (from Miami!) soon after returning from Europe. Seth was an invaluable resource for my introduction to the Seattle architecture community. Seth was a gentle and compassionate soul that you could always count on for understanding and encouragement. His child-like spirit infused his art and renderings while still enhancing the architecture itself. Seth had a significant humanizing effect on the architects he worked with and on all who knew him. When I married, Seth and Victoria warmly embraced Karen and we both treasure our fun times together as couples. We will miss him greatly. Jerry Ginader and Karen Elledge
