Roger Alfred Howe
7/7/1959 – 2/3/2022
Roger Alfred Howe was born in Seattle, Washington on July 7, 1959, to Larry and Myrtle (Crawford) Howe. He passed away at his home in Oak Harbor on February 3, 2022.
Roger grew up in Idaho Falls with his parents and three sisters. He loved to hike and fish and made many adventurous childhood memories. Some of his adventures were somewhat dangerous and got him into some hot water with his mom, nevertheless he did survive to adulthood despite all his mischievous antics.
Roger joined the Navy in 1979 and served 8 years. During his service he received the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Service Deployment Ribbon, and a First Good Conduct Medal. In 1987 after an honorable discharge Roger went to work for Boeing, at the Everett plant until he passed away. In 2000 he and Lori began dating. They enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, camping, and going to concerts together. After a few years they married on May 31, 2004. Their union brought together four children. Shortly following their marriage, they began attending the Church of the Nazerene and developed a large church family there.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Larry Howe, mother, Myrtle (Crawford) Howe, and sister, Dana Gneiting. He is survived by his loving wife Lora (Lori) Howe, children; Raymond Howe of Iowa, stepson Joshua Graham of Oak Harbor, stepdaughter Phelana Ricciardi of Oak Harbor and stepdaughter Crystal Saveall. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and his sisters, Rayleen Naftzger (Chuck), of Oregon and Karen Ker (Dave) of Idaho Falls. There are also several nieces and nephews and other extended family.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Nazarene in Oak Harbor on February 20, 2022, at 1:00 pm which will be followed by a reception there at the church. This will then be followed by a graveside service at Sunnyside Cemetery at 3:00 pm.
The most important things for Roger were his faith in God, commitment to his country, and love of his family. He was a family man and spent much time with children and grandchildren, camping, carnivals, puzzles, and playing games. He had a heart of gold and was a very passionate and patient man. He always liked to put smiles on faces with quirky little sayings such as “Rabbit Rabbit” and “What’s up Buttercup.” He had many friends that he acquired over the years through the Boeing Corporation and the VFW. All were cherished by him in different ways.
Roger was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by many.
The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the following ministries of one’s choice. Oak Harbor Church of the Nazarene, Ryan’s House, or Jakes House.
