Obituary for Robert William Mullins III

Robert W. “Bob” Mullins III
9/25/48 – 5/21/21

Bob was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia. He was an alumnus of the University of Alabama which he attended on a music scholarship. While at Alabama, he played in the Million Dollar Band and formed many lifelong friendships. Bob got his pilot’s license to attend away football games. He thoroughly enjoyed being an amateur pilot.

After college, Bob went to work for Koret of California where he became one of their top salesmen. Koret was also the source of many lasting friendships and saw him traveling throughout the country. He was based in Houston, where he met and married Kathy. Upon retirement, they relocated to the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and never looked back.

Bob was an accomplished bassoonist, studied under Andre Previn at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music before college, and played with the Houston Civic Symphony. He ran in seven marathons and had a passion for sailing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. “Moon” Mullins Jr. and Mary Kelley Mullins. He is survived by his wife Kathy of Washington, sister and brother-in-law Mary and Paul O’Hearn, as well as his nephew and niece, Patrick O’Hearn and Marie Bilthouse, all of Atlanta, Georgia.

Bob will be greatly missed by all the lives he touched. He was a southern gentleman with a great smile and a huge heart that finally just wore out. He died of heart failure.

Bob will be buried in Columbus, Georgia with a Catholic graveside service.
