Obituary for Peggy Joe Shirar

Peggy Joe Shirar, 89 passed away peacefully at her home in Coupeville, Washington with her family. She was the youngest of seven children, born to August and Katie Pasquali in Coalgate Oklahoma.
She was raised on a farm and attended a one room schoolhouse until fifth grade when they moved to Sunnyvale and later San Jose, California. She worked in the family grocery business during high school and college. In 1955 she graduated from San Jose State with a B.A. in Business Administration.
Seeking adventure after college, she accepted a secretarial position at the Honolulu Advertiser, in Honolulu, Hawaii. From 1962-1964 she was employed by the Department of the Army as a recreational specialist stationed in Wertheim, Würzburg and Aschaffenbug, Germany.
During her travels, she made many lifelong friends whom she kept in contact with until her passing.
Upon her return to the bay area, she met Donald J. Shirar and they were married in 1968.
They Moved to San Diego and in 1971 were blessed with the birth of their daughter Katherine (Kathy). Peggy worked at SDSU in the Physical Science Department for many years until her retirement.
As a family, they enjoyed traveling, and frequent visits with close friends and relatives.
Peggy loved retirement on Whidbey Island, gardening, walking on the beach and her grandchildren.
She was an active member of Coupeville United Methodist Church.

She will be dearly missed by daughter Kathy Neiman-Cooper, son in law Kevin Cooper, her grandsons, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents August and Katie Pasquali, her loving husband of 39 years Don Shirar, her siblings Louis A. Pasquali (Edith), Jim Pasquali (Ava Nell), Eugene Pasquali (Eileen), Betty Ann Rose (Henry), Doris Marie Sharkey (Bill), Bruna Mello (Henry),
and niece Lori Goodrich (Russ).

Celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM, April 22, 2023 at Coupeville United Methodist Church.
