Obituary for Matthew Joseph Mikos

Matthew Mikos passed away unexpectedly on May 23rd, 2022 at the young age of 38 years.

Born in Germany to James and Alice Mikos, Matt was the middle child of two sisters, Kimberlee and Christina. He lived most of his life between Oregon and Washington. Graduating with honors from Oak Harbor High School (2002), alongside his high school sweetheart and future wife, Wendy Frost.
In his younger years, Matt worked as a Mechanic’s Assistant for Mark’s Auto Repair and a Shift Supervisor for UPS. He graduated from Western Washington University (2011) with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.

Matt and Wendy married (2006) and later expanded their family with son Kysen (2011), daughter Kinsey (2013), son Karver (2015), and daughter Kehlia (2021). After living in Mount Vernon, Washington for over 10 years, they built their current house in Oak Harbor where both sets of parents reside.

Matt’s final title as a Manufacturing Engineer began when he started his career at Janicki Industries (2011) in Sedro-Woolley, Washington. He was a dependable employee and enjoyed supervising projects that both challenged and expanded his brilliant mind.

Matt was a devoted Christian and lived a life that reflected his love for Christ. He was a hardworking, loyal, and faithful provider for his family. A loving son and brother. Truly a patient and gentle soul. His true passion from a young age was always for the sunshine in the rugged outdoors —backpacking, hiking, wakeboarding, snowboarding, kayaking, camping, running events, mountain biking, and riding his motorcycle. His warm smile, quick wit, and light-hearted sense of humor will undoubtedly be missed.

Matt is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, Wendy Mikos; their four young children, Kysen (11), Kinsey (9); Karver (6); and Kehlia (9mo). Loving parents, Jim and Alice Mikos; two sisters, Kim; and Tina (Reid); nephew Ellis; and niece Paige.

We will be celebrating Matt’s life together with friends and family on Thursday, June 9th from 11-3 at The Bridge Christian Fellowship located at 552 W. Troxell Road, Oak Harbor, WA 98277. All are welcome who wish to join.
