LARRY M. ROODZANT
Larry M. Roodzant, age 84, longtime resident of Oak Harbor, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 19, 2020, surrounded by his loving family at his home following a brief illness.
Mr. Roodzant was born in Oak Harbor on June 16, 1935, to Bert and Gardenia (Ponstien) Roodzant. He attended schools in Oak Harbor, graduating from Oak Harbor High School in 1953. Following high school graduation Larry married Arlene Kitchel, and then attended the University of Washington, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business. They resided in Seattle in the Shoreline district, where they raised their three daughters. Larry was a truck driver for many years. He also enjoyed working on vehicles, and operated Larry’s Tune-up and Brake Service for a time. As the family grew, they moved to a home in Edmonds.
In addition to auto mechanics, Larry also had an interest in aviation, and would spent hours teaching his daughter Terri about the names of different aircraft. In addition to Terri Lynn, daughters Leanne Kay and Lynda Diane were also born to Larry and Arlene.
In 1987, Larry’s wife Arlene passed away. He married Marylyn Kay (Weaver) Vander Stoep in 1988. They made Oak Harbor their home for their entire married lives.
Larry is survived by his wife Kay; daughters Terri Pullin (Cecil) of New Braunfels, TX; Leanne Reed of Auburn; Lynda Hall of Alabama; step-children: Jim Vander Stoep (Sherri) of Oak Harbor; Susan Swanson (Ken) of Everson and Lisa Stevenson (Phil) of Lynden; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife Arlene, he was also preceded in death by his brother Leslie.
A Celebration of Larry’s Life was held on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at Whidbey Memorial Chapel, Pastor Phil Stevenson officiating. Interment was held at Floral Hills Cemetery, Lynnwood.
