The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Joseph Leopold can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

An inspiring teacher

It's funny -- I was just telling my family a story about Mr. Leopold and what a great teacher her was.  In fact, he had a big influence on the direction I took in my political views and my ongoing fascination with history.  He was such a good teacher, and I had him for a couple of classes.  I especially remember the extra time he took to converse after class, making a connection, and also helping us see politics in a new way.  He made the effort to take us to the U District to see a film about Vietnam called "Hearts and Minds."  It blew me a way because it gave us the first glimpses of the war from the Vietnamese people's eyes. It caused me to not believe everything I am told and to look behind the story that you are officially given.  This was in 1975, I think.  He was one of my favorite teachers, and I've wondered how he was.  I guess he might have inspired me to become a teacher! I hope that this time is not too difficult for you all.  He did live a long and full life! My best wishes to all of you.
