JOHN ARTHUR SHARPLES
John Arthur Sharples, age 47, of Oak Harbor, longtime Sedro-Woolley resident, passed away
at home following a battle with melanoma.
John was born in Mount Vernon on June 29, 1968, to William David Sharples, Sr. and Sally Lorraine (Karr) Sharples. He lived in Mount Vernon until age seven, when he moved to Oak Harbor with his family. He attended Oak Harbor schools. Eventually, John returned to the Mount Vernon-Clear Lake area, residing there until he was diagnosed with cancer, at which time he moved back to Oak Harbor.
John enjoyed fishing, camping and sprint car racing at Skagit Speedway.
John is survived by his daughter, Kelly Sharples of Sedro-Woolley; his mother, Sally Mahieu of Oak Harbor; his sister, Julie Jaramillo of Oak Harbor; his brother, William Sharples, Jr., of Sedro-Woolley; his grandmother, Lorraine Karr; his three nieces, Charissa, Karlie and Zoey; also, his two nephews, Adrian and Rafael. He was preceded in death by his father, William Sharples, Sr. in 2011 and a son, Greg Gilbert in 2012.
Services will be private. Memorials are suggested to the Melanoma Research Foundation, 1411 K Street, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20005. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and condolences at www.whidbeymemorial.com.
