Obituary for Jesse Michael VanBenschoten

Jesse M. VanBenschoten
Monday, November 28, 2022, Jesse Michael VanBenschoten, loving son, brother, and friend passed away in Oak Harbor, Washington. Jesse was born in Coupeville, Washington on February 23, 1990. Proceeded in death by father Michael {Mick} Frank Kramer. He is survived by his mother, Lisa VanBenschoten and sisters, Beth {Noah} Madigan and Cheri VanBenschoten, and brother, James Engen. Jesse is also survived by his added family Ron and Cindy Buchanan plus sisters Nichole Buchanan her daughter Avery, and sister Shea Bryner and 3 nieces.
Jesse was raised in Freeland, WA and attended South Whidbey schools, where he enjoyed playing high school football and graduated in 2008. Jesse's grandpa had a farm which he enjoyed helping out with the cows, pigs, driving tractors, and other farm activities. Jesse joined the army and graduated as a Distinguished Honor Grad in January 2011 from Fort Sill Army Base in Oklahoma. Jesse was then stationed in Oahu, Hawaii where he was a part of the 2-11th Field Artillery Regiment.
Jesse returned home to Whidbey Island, where he found employment at Penn Cove Mussel farm and then later Greenback Sand and Gravel. He also did construction and handyman work at times. Jesse enjoyed living life and being outdoors and having fun in whatever he was doing. He spent time zip-lining, hiking, , exploring the beaches of our beautiful island and collecting agates. Jesse enjoyed time in the woods and one of his favorite places was to explore the Earth Sanctuary in Langley. However, Jesse's favorite thing was being with as many friends and family as he could. His friends and family were his life.
Jesse was a very gifted and talented person whether painting, drawing, carving, or exploring different ways to create art and items which he loved sharing with others. Jesse will be remembered for his humor, honesty, integrity, his resiliency, his hardworking attitude, and his loving spirit. He will be missed by many who shall always love and treasure the person that he was.








In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Earth Sanctuary in his name to help support park maintenance as well as to plant a Memorial Tree in Jesse's name.
