Obituary for Helen Carmen Kolden (Hukki)

HELEN CARMEN KOLDEN
Helen Carmen Kolden, age 81, of Oak Harbor, Washington, formerly of Aberdeen, South Dakota, passed away at Regency on Whidbey Assisted Living in Oak Harbor on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Kolden was born in Hecla, Brown County, South Dakota on April 3, 1938, to Matti and Laura (Harju) Hukki. She attended school in Hecla and graduated from high school there. Helen met Harlan C. Kolden and they were married in Aberdeen, S.D. on December 7, 1957. The couple remained in Aberdeen and raised their three children there. She was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone as an operator for a number of years. She also worked for Northwestern Electric Company in their office in Aberdeen, and later as a receptionist for Hyman’s Moving Company. They later moved to Lake City, S.D. for several years, before returning to Hecla, S.D., where Harlan passed away.
Helen enjoyed playing cards and reading. She especially loved being with her family.
Helen is survived by her two children: son Steven Kolden and wife Rose of Oak Harbor, WA, and daughter Patricia Helmbrecht of Billings, MT; six grandchildren: Jessica Cross of Mitchell, S.D. , Hannah Ennis of Billings, MT, Russell Hartzell and wife Jayme of Missoula, MT, Stephanie Kolden, of Spokane, WA, Matthew Kolden of Bothell, WA and Nathan Kolden of Oak Harbor, WA; six great-grandchildren: Halie, Harley, Brendan, Abrianna, Kitara and Anika; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband Harlan on January 15, 2003; by son Todd Kolden on September 19, 2017; also by one sister and six brothers.
In keeping with her wishes no services are planned. Inurnment will take place in Hecla, S.D. at a later date. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and condolences at www.whidbeymemorial.com.
