Obituary for Helen Eleopulos Genis

Helen was born in East Ill., on Feb. 12, 1923 to John and Zaharula Eleopulos. She was the youngest of five siblings, Louie, Mike, Ann and Tom to whom she remained close throughout their lives. Completing her schooling in East Moline, Helen began working for a Navy Contractor as an inspector. Attaining recognition for the excellance and proficiency of her work, she was honored by one of the Teletype machines of her inspection being chosen as one of the machines used at the time of the signing of the treaty at the conclusion of WWII.
After starting a career with Illionis Bell Telephone Company, Helen relocated to Las Vegas, NV where she continued her career in the employment of Nevada Centel, eventually retiring as The Communications Service Adviser Supervisor. This position afforded her the opportunity to create a curtesy policy within the Centel Company and to interact with the Las Vegas hotel systems, supervisors and employees. Training, implementing and establishing a communications network curtesy program within the Las Vegas community in the 50's and60's, her program became the forerunner of what exists today.

It was in Las Vegas that Helen met and married her husband, John. Together they traveled throughout the US and abroad for pleasure and for John's Construction business. Leaving behind many dear friends in Las Vegas and a love of tennis for Helen, they then moved to Clinton where they spent over 20 wonderful years of casual life. Those years were peppered with travel and visits with family and friends.

Helen loved people. Holding true to her personal motto "Say a kind word to someone every day to make them happy", she made countless close friends and acquaintances in. Clinton. These were very happy years for John and Helen.

Helen is survived by her stepson, J.M. Genis (Brenda) of Tennessee. Also surviving are three granddaughters, Nicolle Cella (Chuck), Angie Foracre (George) and Kimberly, two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Breannna and several nephews and nieces, including Cynthia Dunhill to whom she was especially close, and her close friend, Cheryl Soskin.
